Arsenal fan Piers Morgan and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham clash over whether the Invincibles or Manchester United’s treble winners were better
Piers Morgan and talkSPORT host Adrian Durham have been debating the age old question of who was better; the Invincibles or the treble winning United side of 1999.Morgan joined Durham on Drive ahead of Arsenals clash with Manchester United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.Arsenal won the Premier League title in 2004 without losing a game2

The diehard Arsenal fan was, naturally, arguing his case for the Invincibles whereas the talkSPORT host was backing the treble winners as the better achievement.Under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, United won the FA Cup, Premier League and Champions League in a remarkable haul. However, the Gunners went through the entire 2003/04 Premier League season without tasting defeat – but did not succeed in any other competitions and Durham was quick to remind Morgan of that.Piers Morgan: The Invincibles did something that was completely unique, which no team is ever likely to replicate and in 100 years time we still be talking about that Arsenal Invincibles team with a magic to it.“I dont think you get that from winning a Champions League.Adrian Durham: The problem youve got is that only Arsenal fans really care about the Invincibles tag. Nobody else really values it.Arsenal only value it because they cant shout about the Champions League or the treble or they cant even shout about being back-to-back title winners.Morgan: You dont think fans of other Premier League teams want to go a season unbeaten? Dont be ridiculous.Durham: I think they want to win the title. Chelsea did it with five more points the next year. That was better.Manchester United’s treble winners2

Morgan: Look at the reaction of City fans and Liverpool fans when they lose a game in the Premier League and realise they cant replicate it. They know how difficult it is.Durham: Do you know what the most painful thing for you though is? When you lost to Chelsea in that quarter-final, to a Wayne Bridge goal, they then lost to Monaco who then lost to Porto. What an easy route to win the Champions League title by the way.And what happened after that? Mourinho, after having won the Champions League, then got the Chelsea job, which he wouldnt have got if Arsenal had beaten Porto in the final and he completely destroyed Wengers legacy. Morgan: None of that I disagree with you about. But in terms of you trying to trivialise the Invincibles and trying to diminish what they achieved and try to bring in the 99 United team, which got incredibly lucky with that Giggs goal. Which got incredibly lucky at the Nou Camp, because I was there.Durham: Were they lucky when Bergkamp missed a penalty?Morgan: Well Bergkamp should never have taken a penalty, he was no good at penalties.
