And one of the episodes will focus on United’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexandra at Plainmoor on May 9, 1987.In one of English football’s most bizarre stories, Bryn the police dog rescued the Gulls from relegation and helped maintain their Football League status on the final day of the season. With Torquay trailing and in need of a draw to stay up on goal difference, Bryn forced injury time by biting Gulls defender Jim McNichol. And it was during injury time when Paul Dobson struck the crucial equaliser, and so ‘The Jaws of Victory’ story passed into Devon folklore.Netflix will recreate that day as one of eight episodes in the ‘Losers’ series, which will hit worldwide screens on March 1, alongside other stories including Jean van de Velde’s gut-wrenching collapse on the final hole of the 1999 Open Championship. The New York-based Topic Studios crew spent a week in South Devon 14 months ago interviewing several leading characters from the 87′ campaign, including McNichol and Dobson, as well as Bryn’s handler John Harris.Torquay are not the only English football club to feature on Netflix2
